Lonely Virtue
Is there an advantage
To being alone
Having no obligation
To anyone you've known
Sharing your life
With no one but yourself
Keeping your feelings
In a bottle on a shelf
Holding all your thoughts
Safely in your mind
Leaving all others
In the dust behind
Not giving anyone
The simple pleasure of your touch
Staying in your own world
Missing so very much
You hold the world at a distance
So that no one can come near
You hide your joys and sorrows
And mask your hopes and fears
Is there a virtue
In thinking you are the only one
Ignoring that we're all connected
One ending where another has begun
